THEMATIC COLLABORATIVE CLUSTER: INVASIVE SPECIES AND CLIMATE RANGE MIGRATIONS

EFFECTS OF INVASIVE SPECIES

Invasive species cause major disruptions to ecosystems around the world. In the marine and aquatic environments of the United States alone, it is estimated that invasive have an annual impact of over $10 billion USD per year on losses and control costs. Our team is working to better understand invasive species' distributions, ecological interactions, and economic impacts. Most recently, the team is working on invasive crustaceans in Long Island Sound and South America, but also interact on restoration projects involving invasive Phragmites reeds, which stifle growth of native salt marsh grasses.
